Description

Cinnamon - Sing Habaneras, LP by Edigsa (1980)

Sing Habaneras This album features the group Canela in a repertoire of habaneras, published by Edigsa in 1980. The reference associated with this edition is 01 L 0093. The record is organized into two extensive sequences, one per side, and the back cover lists sixteen titles on each side. "Canta habaneras" appears as the opening and closing track on both sides, framing traditional songs such as "La paloma," "La bella Lola," "La gaviota," and "Torrevieja.".

The transcription retains the printed order and does not add attributions of performers or authors that are not documented for each song.

The habanera has a history linked to musical exchanges between Cuba and Spain. The educational materials from the Popular Culture Department of the Generalitat of Catalonia explain that the habanera contradanza arrived in Europe via sailors, soldiers, merchants, and other travelers; under the name habanera, it spread as a song and dance, with lyrics in Spanish and a moderately syncopated rhythm. This context helps to understand why the album's repertoire combines traditional songs and titles related to Havana and the sea, without the liner notes attributing a specific origin to each piece. You can read the introduction about The history of the habanera in the Popular Culture resource.

Euzomo's discography lists this LP under the Canela label, in the quartets section, with the Edigsa label, reference 01 L 0093, and the track listing for both sides. I don't have a verifiable biography of the group that would allow me to add the names of its members, so I'm keeping the information at the level confirmed by the edition. Consult the Canela and Edigsa record label.
