Description

Karajan conducts two Tchaikovsky concertos on LP

This Círculo de Lectores edition brings together two concertante works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky on a single disc: Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23, and Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35. The reference printed on the back cover is 52258. Lazar Berman plays piano, and Christian Ferras is the violin soloist. The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra accompanies them under the direction of Herbert von Karajan. The year of this particular edition is not indicated in the available photographs, so a date cannot be assigned.

Musical genre: Classical music.

The record retains its original seal. It has not been opened, and therefore the condition of the vinyl and its playback have not been checked. The images show the sleeve closed and allow you to assess its external appearance. It is offered as a collector's LP in the club edition identified by its reference number, not as a Deutsche Grammophon reissue: the link to that label's catalog serves to document the recording and the performers of related works, not to identify the pressing of this copy.

Side A: Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 23

  1. Allegro non troppo e molto maestoso – Allegro con spirito
  2. Andantino semplice – Prestissimo – Tempo I
  3. Allegro con fuoco

Side A presents the three movements of the piano concerto. The first alternates the introduction marked maestosa with the Allegro; then comes the Andantino with its Prestissimo section and the return Tempo I, and the side concludes with the Allegro con fuoco. The order and titles are transcribed from the photographed back cover.

Side B: Violin Concerto, Op. 35

  1. Allegro moderata
  2. Canzonetta. Andante – attack
  3. Finale. Allegro vivacissimo

The second side contains the three movements of the violin concerto, from the Allegro moderato to the Finale vivacissimo. The indication "attacca" for the Canzonetta also appears in the printed program and is preserved here. The liner notes allow you to locate the combination of repertoire, soloists, orchestra, conductor, and reference without attributing to the disc a date that is not shown on the edition.
