Luis Cobos was born in Campo de Criptana and received training in solfège and music theory; in his childhood he learned to play the requinto guitar and was a member of the local Beethoven Philharmonic. In his teens he directed the Loyola Choir School and studied polyphony and choral conducting. In late 1968 he founded Conexión, a group with jazz and soul influences, before working as a musical director, arranger, and producer. His subsequent discography combined diverse repertoires with international orchestras. In this edition of Magnum Opera, The cover credits The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Opera House Chorus, The London Symphony Orchestra, and a special appearance by Plácido Domingo. The back cover features nine tracks across two sides, with excerpts from works by Verdi, Donizetti, Bellini, and Puccini, as well as medleys listed in the insert.
