Luis Cobos and the music of zarzuela
Luis Cobos was born in Campo de Criptana and began his musical studies with solfège, music theory, and the requinto guitar. As a child, he joined the local Beethoven Philharmonic, where he also sang as a soloist. During his adolescence, he directed the Loyola Choir School and studied polyphony and choral conducting. In the late 1960s, he created Conexión, a group with jazz and soul influences, and later worked as a musical director, arranger, and producer. In October 1982, he recorded Operetta with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. The edition described here corresponds to that project of Spanish lyrical repertoire performed in orchestral format: the listing includes excerpts from titles such as The Gran Vía, Doña Francisquita, The Troublemaker y The Leandras. The municipal biography includes the history and details of this recording.
